Dasharathi is a mage of the Lavellan clan; First to Keeper Istimaethoriel. His largely isolated, homogeneous life took a turn when he was sent to spy on the Conclave meeting between mages and templars. After the devastating events that took place at that meeting, Dasharathi found himself embroiled in a vast and horrifying plot to tear apart his world, the sole survivor of a cataclysmic event that destroyed the Temple of Sacred Ashes and left him with a strange green mark on his hand.

Dasha is sincere, inquisitive (ha ha), and forthright. Although he has a gentle humor, particularly with strangers, he's a serious and often solemn person. Responsibility means everything to him, and he does not shirk his duty to whatever role he's assigned. First to the Keeper; Herald; Inquisitor--none of these are positions he wanted, but they are positions he does not take lightly, regardless. Though initially terrified and confused by his new circumstances, he also understands that there's a job to do and he's the only one who can do it. He doesn't believe that he's the Herald of Andraste -- or anything else, for that matter -- but he's not going to let the world down. If he can.

As his problems multiply and the situation becomes more and more complex, Dasha is forced to grow and rethink some of his old viewpoints. Though he wears the vallaslin like other age-appropriate Dalish elves, and though he studied faithfully as First to his Keeper, he does not truly believe in the elvish pantheon of gods. He absolutely has no faith in the Maker, Andraste, or any of the related institutions, and he likes them less and less the more he learns of them. However, he also learns that there are good people in the Chantry, and that there is merit in inspiring people through faith -- regardless of whether or not you share that faith.

Dasha is easily and deeply moved by tragedy and loss; if someone is in an obvious state of physical or emotional suffering, it's his instinct to respond with compassion. Unfortunately, it's easier for him to reach out this way when he doesn't feel guilt and shame for whatever shit just went down. His stress can sometimes get the best of him and result in a more blunt and harried response than he intends; this seeming callousness is purely an outcropping of his own misery at having failed (c.f. the disaster at Haven, for which he feels entirely responsible).

When given the choice, Dasha favors second chances for enemies and allies alike. He does not typically execute prisoners, even for heinous crimes; he finds that most of the people he's called on to judge have compelling -- if misguided -- reasons for the mistakes they've made.

That said, he also does not hesitate to fight back if he's attacked, and he will not suffer insults indefinitely. Cracks about his ears and general heritage are only tolerated for so long, and then only from certain people. Calling him 'rabbit' buys you a first-class ticket to Disapproval Town.

He believes in justice for the victimized, fairness, compassion, and freedom. He abhors the entire concept of the Chantry circles, especially the very notion of the Rite of Tranquility. Initially he is quite blunt and immovable on this position; however, as he spends more time with the people of the Inquisition, he begins to see the roots of the Chantry system more clearly ... though he still doesn't like it much.

Due to his forthright nature, Dasha has little love for politics, especially as they are played in Orlais. He is uncomfortable at formal events, from the clothing down to the expectations of behavior. This is partly due to living as a nomad away from larger society for the better part of his life, partly due to his youth, and partly due to his intrinsic nature. He is capable of learning the Game, and learning quickly, but it chafes him nevertheless. He usually needs a long bath afterwards.

Ultimately, though, Dasha just wants to do the right thing, and he wants to do it because it's right -- not because of any religious imperative, and not even to glorify his race or status as a mage.

MAJOR DECISIONS
  • IN HUSHED WHISPERS Recruited the mages as full allies.
  • HERE LIES THE ABYSS Left Warden Stroud in the Fade (felt terrible about it); recruited the Grey Wardens as allies.
  • WICKED EYES AND WICKED HEARTS Saved Empress Celene. Asked that Gaspard and Briala's lives be spared.
  • WHAT PRIDE HAD WROUGHT Walked the Petitioners' path; allied with the ancient elves; drank from the Well.
